This past weekend, I had the delight of attending a truly magnificent Indian wedding, which was a sensory masterclass in color, culture, and culinary excellence. The celebration unfolded like a vivid tapestry of joy, shimmering saris in every imaginable hue. Truly a remarkable sight! The air was rich with the scent of spices, and music complemented the space, making every moment sparkle with energy. However, beyond the beauty and lavish aromas, this was no ordinary wedding; it was a UCSF Decision Lab milestone. Two amazing people, once united by spreadsheets, cognitive studies, and ducks (for the insiders), found themselves united in matrimony. Alums flew in from across the country, proving that even after years apart, the gravitational pull of not only good science, but even better people, still remains strong.

Madhu, radiant as ever, exuded the same warmth and compassion that make her a magnetic presence in any context, academic or otherwise. She literally lights up every room she enters. Clayton was equally unforgettable with his signature humor and delightful quirks that used to bring much laughter to lab meetings. Together, they reminded everyone how love often shows up in the most unexpected places, even between coding meetings and deadlines. Seeing everyone together again was a true highlight, filled with laughter and a sense of nostalgia. As we laughed, reminisced, and celebrated the couple’s union, the night became a joyful convergence of past and present—a living testament to the fact that sometimes, the best lab results are found outside the lab entirely. Here’s to more Decision Lab weddings, reunions, BBQs, and lifelong happiness!
